Not So April Fool’s

While this press release was an April Fool’s Day joke, the sentiment is not. Real, global change is possible if youth from across the globe take action and make changes, small and large, in their own communities. For Immediate Release

Washington, DC (April 1, 2015) -- EarthEcho International, the environmental education and youth leadership nonprofit organization co-founded and led by Philippe Cousteau, Jr., is proud to announce that through their programs, an international group of youth have managed to successfully reverse the effects of  climate change.

The efforts began small, with many youth not recognizing the large impact of the small actions they were taking. “It just started as a small class project,” said Coral Staghorn. “We didn’t realize that recycling and carpooling could spiral into global change.”

Students from around the world have begun to pick up EarthEcho’s Water Planet Challenge Action Guides in their classrooms, clubs, and communities to make small, incremental changes. As students investigate a wide variety of issues, they have realized that everything and everyone is connected.

It has taken local, national, and international governments decades, thousands of pieces of legislation, and countless arguments to accomplish just a fraction of the change these young people  have brought about in one short year. Using Instagram, Tumblr, and Snapchat, students from across the world were able to collaborate and bring about a decline in global carbon emissions that world leaders never thought possible.

Scientists are amazed at how quickly youth  were able to implement simple, earth-friendly tips so quickly. “For years I have been preaching about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling,” said climate scientist Dr. Ted Carbons. “Finally, I feel like someone is listening.”

With this bright, young bunch of climate activists around the world, our future looks great. As our planet gets back on track, we’re hoping to see rebounds in biodiversity, less severe weather, and a halt to sea level rise.Scientists such as Dr. Carbons are warning, however, that we can undo all of this good work even faster than we were able to fix it.
