Tara O’GormanExpedition Fellow: Water By Design
Tara O’Gorman is an educator, child advocate, environmentalist, photographer, and filmmaker. Over the course of her 24-year teaching career she has been the recipient of The New York State English Council Educator of Excellence Award, and a Disney Teacher of the Year nominee.
Tara has contributed her voice to several published articles including the New York Times and Westchester Parent Magazine. She has been featured in on-line publications for NAMLE – National Association for Media Literacy and The Center for Media Literacy in Malibu, CA as well serving as guest blogger for Google Education and The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY.
Throughout her years teaching for the Yonkers Public Schools in New York, Tara has continued to work with multiple outside organizations to bring varied learning experiences to her students. Including Google (Expedition) and The Jacob Burns Film Center for Grades Pre K - 8. In addition Tara has co-produced a “School Spirit” video which was spotlighted on-line with HBO Family, “Focus On Nature”, a collaborative effort with the Jacob Burns Film Center assisting students creating a classroom video collection of their work with a naturalist, and most recently edited and produced a S.T.E.A.M video based on the Pulaski 5th grade students’ work with the “Three Rivers of Yonkers Curriculum”.
Tara feels privileged to have taught First, Second, Fourth and Fifth grade in both the Bronx and Yonkers, New York. Her passion for teaching using Media/Visual Literacy, photography and film enhances all collaborative lessons with her colleagues and outside partners. She finds the most gratifying teaching and learning comes when lessons are supported across the curriculum. Tara holds a Masters Degree in Education with an Undergraduate degree in Communication Arts. She currently is a Yonkers Public School 5th Grade Educator (ELA,Social Studies and Visual Literacy) at the Casimir Pulaski School. Tara is honored and thrilled to be a part of the EarthEcho Fellow Expedition.
