Skye Garrett

Skye Nicole Garrett, is a 20-year-old student in her junior year of college at Coastal Carolina University (CCU), majoring in Marine Science with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Skye is from Washington, DC and is an alumnus of the Black Girls Dive Foundation (BGDF) based in Baltimore County, Maryland. During her 5-years in the BGDF STEAM program, Skye has obtained her open water scuba diving certification, advanced open water scuba certification and scientific diving certification. For the past two years, Skye has participated in Youth Diving With a Purpose (YDWP) and will be returning this summer. Through YDWP, Skye has gained experience in maritime archaeology and ocean conservation. Skye has a career goal of one day establishing a marine mammal sanctuary for the treatment and rehabilitation of injured sea life. Until that time, Skye is very active at CCU where she serves as an Orientation Leader, the Vice President for the Coastal Activities Board, and a member of the HTC Honors College. Skye’s love of water came at a young age and through her many experiences, her connection to the ocean and marine life has continuously grown. Skye’s other interests include photography, mentoring, and event planning.
