Restoring Coastal Habitat at Kalaeokaunaʻoa
On June 29, youth leaders from EarthEcho International joined the North Shore Community Land Trust for a volunteer restoration workday at Kalaeokaunaʻoa (Kahuku Point) on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Participants got their hands dirty removing invasive weeds and planting native plants to help restore this coastal dune ecosystem.
Participants were able to see the mōlī (Laysan albatross; Phoebastria immutabilis) chicks preparing to fledge and learn how restoring coastal habitat helps seabirds and other marine wildlife. Participants came from Kailua, Mililani, Makakilo and one even flew in from the Big Island! This event is part of an ongoing series of youth-driven coastal restoration projects organized through the OceanEcho 30x30 campaign.
