2022 Youth Leadership Summit: THE POWER OF ADVOCASEA
August 5 & 6, 2022
The 2022 EarthEcho Youth Leadership Summit virtually united over 250 young ocean advocates from 39 countries and territories on August 5 and 6 for two days of networking, learning, and collective action focused on the theme of the Power of Advocasea.
Kicking off with a keynote presentation from Director of Environmental and Social Responsibility at the World Surf League, John Suhar, participants explored the multi-faceted components of ocean advocacy through engaging presentations from members of our EarthEcho Youth Leadership Council and network of partners. A film screening of the Patagonia film, Fishpeople, provided an inspirational wrap-up to day one.
Day two of the Summit kicked off with an impactful conversation on ocean justice with Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, and also featured presentations by EarthEcho’s global community of youth leaders on their conservation work, and a panel discussion on indigenous and community-led marine protected area efforts. Saturday afternoon provided participants opportunities to gain skills in policy, entrepreneurship, and communications and apply those skills by taking direct action – uniting to call members of Congress to support ocean-based climate solutions, creating digital media supporting ocean protection, and contacting government officials to support a strong High Seas Treaty.
We look forward to building on the Summit momentum to amplify efforts to protect and restore our ocean planet.
