Aidan Wells
Aidan Wells, a recent graduate of Cal Poly, holds a degree in Environmental Management and Protection with a minor in Indigenous Studies in Natural Resources and the Environment. His passion for safeguarding the rights of indigenous tribes fuels his work with Earth Echo International.
Aidan currently resides in San Luis Obispo and is actively involved with community nonprofits, championing urban forestry initiatives under the guiding philosophy of planting "the right tree in the right place at the right time." To date, he has contributed to the planting of over 80 trees this year, enhancing the urban landscape and fostering a greener environment.
Additionally, Aidan volunteers at the local aquarium, ensuring the tanks remain pristine; additionally engaging with the community through educational visits to local schools. He brings mobile touch tanks to these visits, offering students a hands-on experience with local marine life and nurturing a connection to their aquatic neighbors. Through his varied endeavors, Aidan exemplifies a commitment to environmental stewardship and education.
Campaign Impact
As a 2024 EarthEcho Ocean Protection Ambassador and in collaboration with the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, Aidan Wells - a 21 year old California climate activist, created a 5th-grade, week-long curriculum for Central Coast students. This curriculum was designed to educate students about core concepts relating to the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary including local marine biodiversity, food webs/chains, Chumash Tribe culture and knowledge, and ocean conservation. Aidan has received great feedback on the curriculum so far and plans to begin hosting workshops for teachers later this year to ensure this curriculum is introduced formally into classrooms.
“The Ocean Protection Ambassador program is an exceptional platform for young activists to engage and make a meaningful impact. The opportunities for networking are unparalleled, and the support from Sean Russell and the entire team is truly outstanding. Attending Capitol Hill Ocean Week in Washington, DC, was an incredible experience, offering the chance to connect with inspiring nonprofit leaders, passionate climate advocates, and influential policymakers. I’m beyond excited to take everything I’ve learned and continue my work in environmental education, building on this incredible experience. I can't recommend this program enough to anyone looking to deepen their involvement in ocean conservation and environmental advocacy.”
