Franz Mandler graduated from Melbourne University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Education, majoring in Chemistry. He has worked in all boys, girls only and co-educational schools. Franz has taught Chemistry in both the Victorian Certificate of Education and International Baccalaureate systems. He also teaches General Science to students in upper Primary and Middle Years. In the classroom, he encourages his students to work collaboratively, think for themselves and learn through practical activities that utilize different technologies. Franz is committed to encouraging more girls to continue studying science subjects throughout secondary school and beyond. In 2013, Franz completed post-graduate studies in Career Development at The Australian Catholic University and since then he has helped many students understand the various educational pathways through secondary school, Universities, and TAFE providers. He has organized for students to attend university campus tours, Career Expos and participate in Citizen Scientist opportunities and other STEM initiatives. Learning about the environment with a science perspective in mind is something that Franz is very passionate about, and he uses the opportunity to attend Middle Years school camps to rural and remote locations throughout Victorian, to bring concepts and knowledge taught in the classroom ‘to life’ in the field.
