Sunook Yoon
Winterville, NC, USA
Sunook Yoon is a fifteen-year-old high school sophomore dedicated to helping the world become a better place through innovation. Growing up in Greenville, North Carolina, home of the Tar and Neuse Rivers, he saw first-hand waterways and beaches degrading over time due to pollution. Hoping that there will come a day when he will see beaches clean and free of pollution, Sunook is motivated to save and advocate for the environment.
In addition to mentoring two environmental organizations from New Jersey, USA, and Buea, Cameroon, Sunook is the co-founder of the Environmental Droners, a project dedicated to reducing environmental pollution by implementing technology. Using drones, Sunook identifies countless trash sites and polluted areas to raise awareness through social media and political action. Sunook is also the co-founder of the Litter Locator, an app created in partnership with East Carolina University's Water Resources Center that allows citizens worldwide to document litter. In addition to expanding the Environmental Droners to Greenville, NC, and Washington, D.C., he has created international chapter organizations in Barcelona, Spain, and Seoul, South Korea. He realizes that every moment with nature may be his last, and that is what motivates him to save and change the world.
