Taylor Cargill
Taylor Cargill is a 22-year-old conservation scientist, Bahamas National Merit Scholar and recent BSc Honours Biology graduate of York University, Toronto. Her passions lie in coastal & marine conservation and addressing intersectional climate justice issues through research, advocacy and grassroots work.
Growing up in Nassau, The Bahamas, her love for the environment began at an early age, and she loves problem-solving from multiple angles to address human and environmental needs in the face of the climate crisis. At university, she championed food justice causes as cofounder of a sustainable agriculture club, advocate on York’s Student Food Insecurity Roundtable, organizer of the school’s 2023 Sustainability and Climate Action Conference, and collaborator with local non-profits on a plethora of climate solutions. As a Member of the Bahamas Youth Secretariat, she attended the 2022 Caribbean RCOY on Climate Change where she supported climate policy efforts leading up to COP27. Since graduation, she has conducted research in coral reef restoration and sustainable design with the Cape Eleuthera Institute, and she is passionate about science and community action to drive positive change. Outside the immediate climate space, she engages in healthcare equity research with ACADIC. In her spare time, she loves birding and marine exploration.
